Museum of Islamic Art, Doha 1
The Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar is a lavish new museum which contains examples from most regions and periods such as, glittering ceramics, metalwork, jewelry, woodwork, glass and textiles. The vast exhibit space is half again as large as the new installation in the Louvre and five times the floor space of the Benaki Museum. Some 500 objects are dramatically displayed in enormous glass cases on massive porphyry tables spot-lit with the latest in fiber-optic lighting. The image above is the top of the museum’s ceiling, a skylight oculus that glistens with geometry. This photo has been provided by Saudi Aramco World.
