Literature is a wonderful way to experience a society from the inside. It gives us access to the thoughts and emotions of characters in the Middle East and insight into historical and contemporary conditions. While of course the characters and situations may be fictional, the environments and emotions do reflect the points of view of indigenous authors. Whether through a vibrantly illustrated picture book or a dense, experimental novel, literature gives us an exciting window onto the Middle East.
